Crispy Chicken Tenders with Homemade Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce



Ingredients for the Chicken Tenders

1 package of chicken tenderloins about 12 tenders

2 cups of buttermilk or 2 cups of whole milk with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar (if you don't have buttermilk)

1 teaspoon of hot sauce

2 large eggs beaten

2 cups of flour

2 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt

3/4 teaspoon of black pepper

1 teaspoon of paprika

1/4 teaspoon of baking powder

Vegetable oil for frying


Directions on how to Prepare the Chicken Tenders

  1. Rinse chicken, pat dry and then soak in a bowl with the buttermilk and hot sauce for 10 minutes.

  2. While the chicken soaks, Beat the eggs in one bowl and whisk flour, baking powder, and spices in a second bowl. Also, make your honey mustard sauce.

  3. Dip each piece of chicken from the buttermilk bowl to the flour mixture.

  4. Dip it into the egg mixture and then back into the flour mixture.

  5. Shake excess flour gently off and put the chicken on a separate plate and set aside.

  6. Repeat with all the pieces.

  7. Heat the oil in a cast iron skillet on medium high heat to 350 degrees.

  8. Fry the chicken in small batches for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.


Ingredients for the Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce


1/2 cup of mayo

1/2 cup of honey

2 tablespoons of yellow mustard or Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste


Directions on how to Prepare the Dipping Sauce

Whisk all ingredients together and refrigerate any leftover sauce.

Serve with a tossed salad and/or Trader's Joe's Sweet Potato fries! I normally pop the sweet potato fries in the air fryer while I am frying my chicken tenders. On really busy nights, I use a bagged salad if I don't have time to make a fresh one. And that's ok!
