MY STORY
Who Am I?
I'm Carlena Davis. A culinary content creator, foodie, cookbook author, jam and biscuit maker all rolled into one. I combined my love for Southern cuisine and quick recipes to start my food blog, "Spilling the Sweet Tea," in July 2017.
In 2020, I entered the e-commerce arena when I launched my product line, Miss Lena's. Miss Lena's brings my family's treasured recipes to the masses, giving everyone a bit of Southern Comfort in their kitchen. My product catalog includes raspberry, blackberry and peach preserves as well as biscuit mixes.
I launched my first cookbook, "All About the Jam," in March 2021. This collection of recipes showcases the various ways that jam and preserves can not only be used in different dishes, but also can provide alternatives to the traditional piece of toast!
Following this up, I released "Memories on a Plate" in October 2023. Whether you're reliving fond memories or creating new ones, I share 50 Southern recipes I grew up with like Candied Yams and Squash Casserole.
You might recognize me from my appearance on FOX 5 DC, where I whipped up some classic Southern dishes including ham and cheese biscuits with chives, shrimp and grits, and coffee can sweet potato bread. My creative "schoolbook sandwiches" recipe caught national attention on Fox News, with the instructional video garnering over 92,000 views on Instagram! FOX 5 DC I've also been featured in Voyage LA Magazine, where I shared my entrepreneurial journey and how my parents' business acumen influenced my brands.
I'm also the author of the children's book "The ABC's of Cooking in Maya's World," which empowers young readers in the kitchen and teaches them the ABC's of cooking from A-Z.
Forever a North Carolina girl, I spread the art of Southern Hospitality and entertain my global audience with my infectious positivity and personality! Though I currently reside in Maryland, my heart and culinary inspiration will always be rooted in my Eastern North Carolina upbringing.
