It's Halloween week! If you need a cool food idea for your Halloween party, this blog post is for you! My daughter and l love making holdiay inspired dishes especially for Halloween and Christmas. In years past on my social media, we have shared how to make spooky witch fingers, gelatin eyeballs, spider deviled eggs, and Halloween inspired pop tarts. This year we made a puking pumpkin using a small pumpkin that we carved together and guacamole. Maya loves guacamole and is such an amazing artist so this was the perfect activity for her!
I found the black and orange colored tortilla chips from Wegmans grocery store and they were perfect addition to our Halloween appetizer. Below is the recipe for the guacamole and the tutorial video on how we put it together.
Ingredients Needed for a Puking Pumpkin
4 avocados, ripe
1/ 4 of a red onion, finely diced
2 Roma tomatoes, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, seeds removed and finely diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 lime, juiced
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 small pumpkin
Black and Orange Tortilla chips
Directions to Make a Puking Pumpkin
On a small pumpkin, trace the desired eyes, nose and mouth. Using a paring knife or a carving tool, cut out the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Cut off the top of the pumpkin and remove the flesh and seeds. Rinse and pat dry the inside of the pumpkin. Set aside.
Slice the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop avocado into a mixing bowl.
Mash the avocado with a masher or a fork.
Add the remaining ingredients and stir together until well combined. Add guacamole to the craved pumpkin. Using a spatula, push the guacamole down so the guacamole comes out the mouth of the pumpkin. Serve with tortilla chips. Enjoy!
Happy Halloween!
